Pre-Nursery, Nursery, K1 and K2 Class Children World Water Day is held annually on 22 March, a day designated by the United Nations (UN) to celebrate the importance of water. The UN theme for World Water Day 2018 is “Nature for Water”.
In 2018, Singapore World Water Day (SWWD) was celebrated throughout the month of March with the theme “Make Every Drop Count”, that underpins the active role each of us can play to show our care for water.
With our collaboration with PUB (the National Water Agency that manages Singapore’s Water Supply, Water Catchment and Sewerage in an integrated way), PUB had provided us with sets of materials including recommended activities for conducting in our centre.
Upon receiving it, we distributed Event Brochure on “Singapore World Water Day Roadshow”, five Water-Saving Tips, Magnet, which we had received from PUB, to parents and also, pledge form for staff, parents and etc to make a pledge for commitment to save water. The Key Message was “When we start making small changes in our daily lives and we can notice how much difference it could make”.

After the pledge, we conducted our Water Rationing Exercise. The exercise for children included using rationed water to bath, flush the toilet and brush their teeth. Everyone will be using the same amount of water for bathing, flushing the toilet, washing their hands and brushing their teeth. 3 pails of water for showering 2 pails of water for flushing the toilet Half a mug of water for brushing teeth
Understanding the water cycle is essential as stepping stone to ignite children’s interest in water. We took the opportunity to conduct a simple “Water cycle” activity, using clear zip-lock bags, water blue dye, permanent markers and tape as materials, for our children.
With this activity, children learned about the water evaporation and condensation.
