M.Y World @ Hougang DewCourt aims to promote character building by instilling the spirit of giving, such as care for others, humility, kindness and compassion in our preschool children. With this purpose in mind, we kick-started our SSDB project ‘Caring Befrienders – Connecting Hearts’, in collaboration with SSO@Hougang for their Community Link (ComLink) initiative.
In line with our centre’s ongoing Mindfulness project this year, the children’s learning on the virtues of ‘Care and Love’ was further extended as they took on the role of caring befrienders to the ComLink families which have been identified by SSO@Hougang.
In the last 2 months, our N2 to K2 children conducted various hands-on activities that allowed them to practice care and love in school and towards animals, before they embarked on this SSDB project. Activities included contributions from the children during group discussions, engaging in stories and brainstorming different ways they could take better care of our school resources, such as our library corners, and the importance of being caring and loving towards animals.
In order to get our parents on board with us on this SSDB project, we shared about the purpose of our project via our parent portal, before commencing our parental workshop.
Our SSDB project was officially launched on 21 July 2023!
