START SMALL DREAM BIG’ PRESIDENT’S CHALLENGE PROJECT 2018 – ‘CARING ANGELS’.

STORY 1: BRAINSTORM

Coming Up With Project Idea

It was a meaningful time carrying out our ‘Start Small Dream Big’ President’s Challenge project 2018.

A briefing was held on Monday, 12/02/2018 at ITE College Central (Ang Mo Kio), thereafter teachers shared with the children that we will be embarking in the ‘Start Small Dream Big’ President’s Challenge project.

A SSDB launch party was held on Wednesday, 11/04/2018 with supportive parents attending and having parental involvement and parent-child bonding. Special thanks to our parents for their attendance!

Teachers and children brainstormed during lesson time and they were inspired during the Kindness Movement Storytime. The children learned the importance of being kind and caring towards family, friends and the elderly. This sparked off their sense of wonder which led them to suggest words and appropriate actions in relation with kindness and empathy. As they had learned how to be kind in small ways to others and their family members have also reinforced these acts at home, we decided to visit an Eldercare centre in our neighbourhood.

STORY 2: PLAN

Planning For The Project

Teachers contacted St Luke’s Eldercare Centre at Block 260 Yishun to be our host, and were happy that they granted us the permission on Friday, 8th June 2018, for our K1 and K2 children to engage the elderly with song and dance performances and to distribute healthy cookies baked by the children for the elderly.

Teachers and children gathered to plan the ingredients for the cookies and the design of the packaging. An English and Chinese song was chosen by the teachers to practice with the children for the performance at St Luke’s Eldercare Centre.

STORY 3:EXECUTE

Execution Of Project

Teachers purchased the items which needed to make the healthy cookies. Our Centre Principal and teachers were very touched and impressed when the children volunteered themselves to participate in this meaningful project. The children created beautiful designs on the packaging for the cookies.

On Thursday, 7th June 2018, teachers and children worked together to bake and pack the healthy cookies.

On Friday, 8th June 2018, our K1 and K2 children together with their parents embarked on a delightful outing to bring cheer and joy to the elderly!

STORY 4: REFLECT

Reflection After Project

At St Luke’s Eldercare Centre, the children sang and danced for the residents, and also played board games with them. It was heartening to see the joyful faces of the residents during our visit. After the visit, the children shared their observation and experiences at the eldercare with much joy and enthusiasm. We are really touched and impressed to witness the giving and caring sprit in our children from the school to the home, and into the community!! Well done, Caring Angels!
