Storytelling moments with Cape Recyclers!
In the month of May, the teacher brought in few books from NLB into the classroom and had the children to choose one for a storytelling session. They chose a book titled ‘Captain Green and The Plastic Scene’ for the teacher to read to them. The teacher used actions to exhibit positive body language to the children when reading the story to the children. The little ones had a wonderful time listening to the story as they were able to relate themselves to the environmental superhero in the book!
Cape Recyclers go on a Recycling Hunt!
In the month of June, the teacher introduced ‘Polly Olly’ to the children by watching a video titled ‘What is Recycling?’ In this episode, children learnt why it is important to recycle paper and plastic and discovered ways to recycle through songs and actions done by ‘Polly Olly’. After watching the video, the children were engaged in a role play where they pretended to go on a recycling hunt in the space provided. They looked for empty boxes, plastic bags and bottles on the ground, picked them up and placed them into the recycling bin.
“No one can do everything but everyone can do something.”
In July, our little ones were ready with their art tools in their hands to start creating DIY educational toys. Their mission was to support and raise fund for benefitting organisations.
Children started painting parts of the toys that were made of recyclable materials. They worked in a group to paint on empty boxes and cardboard rolls, colouring and pasting – with the teacher’s facilitation.
Here, a few drops of food colouring were added into the water to make sensory bottles. They enjoyed seeing the food colouring spread throughout the water.
Our little ones from Infant and N1 classes also participated in this journey with us. They did some amazing creations, walking with bubble wrap painted feet on huge paper, painting and pasting on paper materials.
For our last segment of Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) President Challenge, parents are invited to join our Virtual Fundraising Day with Cape Recyclers and teachers. This fundraising aims to raise fund for the kids of Jamiyah Children’s Home - Darul Ma’wa.
