Bless our Foreign Workers (Day 2-Carnival Games)

The sky was blessed with beautiful warm weather on the 5th of May Sunday afternoon. We were glad to have such a beautiful weather on that day to launch another event of our school’s SSDB project.

We planned to have a mini carnival which we would want to invite the foreign workers to come in and have fun together with the children.

Preparation began right after our first event in April. We discussed together with the children what games stall shall we have for them to play and enjoy.

Ideas and suggestions started to pour in and we managed to scale down to 5 games.

We made use of the resources in the school and came out with Ring Toss, Golf, Bowling, Feed the Clown and leaping Frog. We also prepared the prizes and coupons for the foreign workers.

How do we invite them into the school? How do we spread the message across to them and invite them into the school to play the games? We realized we need to put up simple posters to spread awareness to them. Thus, we asked one of the parents to help us to write a simple Tamil language poster which we can put up right outside of the school. Guess what happened next? The messages did get across to the rest of the foreign workers! One came in to play, next 3 came in to play and next 5 came in together! Very soon, many of them joined!

We even attracted the tourist who passed by the school. The number of foreign workers was overwhelming! They played each of the games and were so happy to get the prizes. We continued to let them play the games despite we ran out of coupons. The smiles and the look from their faces showed that they really enjoyed the bonding time together. The children who were assigned to different booths were such an enthusiastic worker during that day that they gave their very best effort to make this event a fun day for them. Not forgetting parents’ support and involvement played an important part in making this event a meaningful and successful.

Though the project has come to an end, our spirit and support will still continue to be thankful and grateful to these foreign workers, who left their hometown, to come to Singapore and help us make Singapore a better place to live in. We hope, through this SSDB project, we would like to cultivate a thankful manner among the children and redefine their perspectives on foreign workers.
