N2 to K2 children were involved in a Start Small Dream Big project on how they can do a part to help raise awareness to save the monkeys and apes. This project is also aligned with their Innovation Guidance Project (IGP) “Learning Goes Wild @ Singapore Zoo & Jurong Bird Park”.
Teachers involved in the project went through a series of training sessions at Singapore Zoo and Jurong Bird Park to equip them with the knowledge and necessary skills to carry out the project. Brainstorming and mind mapping sessions with the children were carried out in school to discuss on their area of interest. From the children’s responses, the project was narrowed down to “Apes and Monkeys”. Through hands-on activities, children explored and learnt about the habitats and characteristics of the primates.
The learning was further enhanced as they embarked on an innovative and meaningful learning journey to the Singapore Zoo.
Parents were also encouraged to be involved in their children’s project through the Home-Learning Link project in term 2. They worked with their children on suggested activities related to the theme such as designing an awareness poster to save the primates. Children presented their individual work which are now displayed and shared at the school’s science learning centre.
Embarking on this project has enabled the children to be more aware of how they can each play a part to help raise awareness in saving the primates.
