We celebrated National Pet Day on 11th April 2023. This was to be a day to appreciate and enjoy the pets that bring families so much joy and love.
The children learned that the National Pet Day was created with the intention of not only appreciating personal pets but also considering what can be done to help abandoned or pets at the shelter. The children have the opportunities to learn about Responsible Pet Ownership on this eventful day by Talks/Show and Tell given by NParks.
The vet from NParks taught and guide the children in caring for hamsters for example, hamsters need a sizeable cage and the correct bedding to burrow.
We pledge to love and care for our fish.
The children also learned that Fish have the same basic needs as other animals, food, water and a proper habitat, but because fish in completely different environments than humans and other mammals, they are dependent on us to provide everything they need to live happily.
The children were lucky enough to meet their furry friends at dog-friendly outdoor spaces near their school. Here, they realised that Pets need to be themselves and promise to provide their pets with a life that they will enjoy.
The children have the opportunities to learn that small birds also need plenty of enrichment and interaction to be happy and alert.
In the classroom, the children used their prior knowledge and experiences to show love and tender loving care for their ‘Pets’.
