Our 2020 SSDB project’s theme is linked to our IGP which is about ‘Water’. All classes are involved and younger levels have started with their activities before the Circuit Breaker Period. Through this project, we aim to teach our children importance of water as well as variety of ways on how to protect our environment and water resources.
In line with our theme, children had the opportunity to show Love and Care to our community by creating appreciation cards for our heroes, packing goodies for our neighbours in our school’s block - reminding them to be safe during this difficult time. Besides these, class teachers also conducted hands-on and fun classroom activities!
Class: Toddler
“Little Helpers Keeping Our Environment Clean”
The goal of this project is to guide our children to give back to the community as we believe ‘No one can do everything, but everyone can do something!’ especially during this COVID-19 period. All are responsible for keeping our country safe and healthy.
We hope our children to understand that keeping Singapore clean is a social responsibility that we can practice in our collective fight against COVID 19 and beyond!
After discussion with toddler children, we proceeded with cleaning our school’s corridors with rain water that was collected in the pails. This gesture was their way to show appreciation to our Town Council workers and community cleaners.
Class: Pre- Nursery
Learning to care for the community is an important aspect for children to learn about care, kindness, and appreciation. As part of the SSDB campaign, N1 class was able to use small actions to help show love and appreciation to their own community with people around them.
“Showing Love and Appreciation to everyone during tough times”
N1 class learned about different community workers and they were introduced to the topic with real life situations and stories of COVID-19. They were taught how these people play a part to fight the virus, protecting them from being sick. We decided to make honey lemon water for all the staff in the centre and made community packs for our neighbours to show our care and concern. N1s were really hyped up as they understood it was a way to show gratefulness to everyone and they wanted to be part of it.
All children tried their very best to make the best honey lemon water for all the staff, making it sweeter for everyone as that’s how they preferred it. All staff appreciated their efforts:)
Little actions were taken by N1 class to show big dream of helping the community to stay strong during this tough period and hoping for COVID-19 to be over soon. Through these small actions, the children learned about how to show love to others and they also learned a new way to say thank you to those around them.
Class: Nursery 2
Our N2 children were introduced to the current water pollution issue, which is one of the most serious ecological threats we face today. Discussions between teachers and children were conducted to raise awareness. To extend their learning on the conservation of water, they were taught how to care for animals in the sea. They discovered that these creatures also need much care and love just like land animals. Harmful effects of littering to the environment is another important concept teacher taught the class.
Children had a pre-activity called ‘Sea and Land Animals’ where they sorted them according to their habitats.
They were asked to discuss what they think would happen to the sea animals if rubbish are thrown into the water.
Child A shared that ‘Sea creatures will get hurt and they will get sick living in dirty water’.
N2s discussed among themselves trying to find answers to this question, ‘How can we help our friends/sea creatures under the sea?’
Child B answered, ‘We need to save the animals by cleaning all the rubbish in the water’.
Then, they helped one another to clear out litter from the container and through this, children realised the importance of keeping water clean both for people and sea animals. This activity has encouraged children to emphatise and understand how our footprints affect ecosystem. “Without clean water, no one lives well’.
Class: Kindergarten 1
K1s were involved in meaningful SSDB activities and one of those was making ‘natural disinfectant sprays’.
To impart to children how people can show love and care, they were read a story titled ‘Meng was Thirsty’. This was followed by discussions and sharing by children on how to give love and care to others.
Due to COVID-19, K1s have decided to make spray disinfectants out of lemon, water and little amount of alcohol. Procedures done were peeling of lemon skin, and soaking of peeled skin in water. After 3 days, lemon skin was mixed with water and alcohol and this now became the ‘natural or home-made disinfectants’.
During this task, K1s were taught that acid in lemon is antibacterial and antiseptic which acts as natural bleach.
Children transferred their disinfectant liquid onto the spray bottles and gave to the community helpers and cleaners. They chose them because they know that these people need sprays in their jobs.
Class: Kindergarten 2
‘Act of Love and Appreciation for Parents’
During discussion with K2s on how they can show Love and Care to their parents, they suggested to make ‘Honey-lemon’ drinks. Besides its sour and sweet taste, they said that the drink will be good for their mommies and daddies as it is healthy with good benefits.
Arranged in pairs, children took turns to make drinks. They helped to squeeze the juice from the lemon, mixed it with honey and stirred the mixture to achieve perfect taste. Keeping in mind that the product of this drink-making is their returned love and care to their parents, they did best to accomplish the activity succesfully. K2s were seen excited, having fun with partner, and they fully engaged themselves in performing the procedures.
Happy parents receiving honey-lemon drink from their parents:)
“Appreciating our Heroes”
As we teach our children how to protect themselves from the virus, teachers also introduced them to the people who are untiringly doing their best to fight COVID-19. Children described them as ‘current superheroes’ as they risk their lives for safety of all.
To show appreciation, different class levels created cards for nurses, other healthcare staff and cleaners of KK Hospital, Nurse Association, Tan Tock Seng, and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. Through this kind gesture, they learnt by heart how important these people are and the jobs they do for our country.

Thank you for appreciating us!:) - Healthcare Staff
We love and care for our neighbours too! We packed and gave goodies to the residents in our school’s block. Goodies come with a reminder/message for them to keep safe and be healthy during this difficult time. :)
