The “Start Small Dream Big” project inspired Kinderland Kindergarten (Serangoon) to think out of the box for its “I Love Otters” Carnival. Kinderland collaborated with Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS) to raise awareness on otters as well as the importance of conserving Singapore native wildlife found on our sunny island. The children went on a learning journey to the Singapore Zoological Garden to expand their knowledge on smooth-coated otters, as well as small-clawed otters. They were given the rare opportunity to get up close and personal with the otters, too!

Kinderland Little Entrepreneurs’ Programme was incorporated as part of the “Start Small Dream Big” project and nett proceeds from the Carnival would go to the WRS Conservation Fund. The children embarked on their journey to become little entrepreneurs; assigning themselves the roles of shopkeepers, packers, coupon collectors and promoters of their own booths, working independently and effectively.
On 24 July 2017, parents came in almost full force to support the “I Love Otters” Carnival at the Centre. The children worked hard to set up and prepare for the event; decorated their booths with colourful handmade posters and helped promote the sale of otters t-shirt which had slogan that says “ Save the otters” hand drawn by the children, terrariums were deigned to save the earth which in turn saves the otters too. Parents were amazed to see their children in various roles and carrying out their responsibilities with confidence. In turn, the parents assisted the children at their booths, and when the children needed additional help.
The experience was enriching, and gave the children a hands-on learning opportunity to operate their little businesses in a realistic setting. They were seen taking pride in their efforts which contributed to the success of the Carnival. They picked up wonderful customer service skills and assisted to problem-solve issues on-the-go. Most importantly, the children gained an awareness on saving the otters among themselves and with the parents.
