"Caring for the environment starts with our little ones"

The children decided to embark on the theme of caring for their environment for the project. To kick start the project,  the children discovered how recycling is done in the community and explored ways to practice the 3Rs (reduce, reuse and recycle).

The K1 suggested using recycled materials to create mobiles for their classroom as part of creative and aesthetics appreciation. They brought the recycled materials from homes to the school.

The K2 class also contributed to the recycling art task by bringing their recyclables to school. After brainstorming ideas, they decided to make a castle for pretend play using the recycleable materials. It was fun to decorate make old things new!

The children collaborated closely and experienced learning from each other’s opinions and knowledge .  They also guided one another during journal writings.

In addition,  they also created a useful product using recyclables with their parents at home and brought back their wonderful creations for show and tell.

In order to maintain their project and create awareness of caring for the environment , the children started a mini herb garden of thyme, basil and sage.

To enhance our planting experience, we visited Kin Yan Agrotech farm which specializes in organic produce such as wheatgrass and mushroom. After the trip,  they wanted to add wheatgrass to their mini garden as well!

They also planted their very own wheatgrass plant and are very excited to watch them grow!

Through this project,  the children have experienced how to make small contributions to show their care for the environment!
