This year, Kinderland continued to collaborate with Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS) and we had adopted the otters. On 10 July 2017, the children went for “I Love Otters” workshop which was conducted by WRS. They had learnt about the otters’ natural habitat, and how water pollution affects and imparts them. In addition, there will be an opportunity for them to meet and observe otter at the workshop.

On 21 July 2017, the Centre had organised a Carnival to raise fund for the otters.
Days before the Carnival, the teachers and children brainstormed on how to raise funds for the otters. It was decided that there would be game booths, snack stalls, craftworks and a Flea Mart.

Teachers and parents donated books and different items such as mugs, toys and stationaries for the Flea Mart. All the children created beautiful handicraft using various materials like plastic bottles, hard cardboard, toilet rolls, crepe papers, coloured papers etc. and sold them in the Carnival. The K2 children were designated to man the stalls. They were briefed on “Customer Service” and skills to develop their businesses. Attractive banners and posters were displayed in the school.
On the actual day of the Carnival, stalls and booths were set up in the classrooms. The children were eager and excited. The K2 children took turns to man the food and games stalls. More than 90 per cent of the parents turned up for the occasion. They were proud and pleased to see their children as little entrepreneurs.
The event was a successful one with the support of the generous parents, cooperative teachers and enthusiastic children. Through this process, the children developed confidence and self-esteem. They also developed social skills as they communicated, took turns, share and cooperated with one another.
