“Chatting” is a leisure activity which busy working (even non-working) Singaporeans long for and which they could only put off to weekends or off days. When such a golden opportunity was created by the centre on 28th March 2019, the response was expectedly awesome!
Some who were working took hours’/day’s off to ‘check’/chat with the teachers what weighs upon the centre’s heart? The parents turned up earlier than or promptly for the chat-time scheduled at 2.30pm.
It was a 15-minute sharing what the centre had done under SSDB –projects from fund-raising for a neighbourhood elderly care to reaching out to a community of special needs….
‘A picture speaks a thousand words’, the many photos flashed on the screen spoke for themselves the past SSDB projects that provided the platform for our ex-K2s to give back to the community from which they have been blessed.
Being blessed, they are more enthusiastic to give back. So we introduced the project “Your Shoes! My Footprints!” for this year. It is to walk in others’ shoes to arouse the awareness and promote acceptance of a population of children born with special needs.
To reinforce “learning”, a concrete foot-printing activity whereby parents and child wear somebody else’s shoes leaving a trail of footprints on paper. And this activity saw a long queue of parents and children walking gingerly in unfitting shoes to experience what it is literally like to ‘walk-in-someone’s-shoes’.
Turning back to see the footprints they left behind, the participants beamed a sense of satisfaction over a task which was challenging, yet not impossible. This indicated to everyone their 100% READY and GO!!!!!!!
