You Are My SUNSHINE!

This is the 5th year that our Centre PCF Sparkletots Preschool@ Braddell Heights Branch BLK 246 has participated in SSDB. This year’s theme, “You Are My Sunshine,” seeks to spread joy and positivity to people around us. Through this project, we aim to provide a platform for children and their families to learn about empathy, kindness, and compassion towards others.

Why did we choose this topic?

Giving children the opportunity to put a smile on others can have a positive impact on their social and emotional development, as well as their relationships with others. It can help them become more caring, compassionate, and confident individuals.

SSDB Launch: Collaborating with Seniors from St Luke Senior Care

For our SSDB launch held on Tuesday, 25th April 2023, the children and seniors gathered virtually to celebrate the theme “You Are My Sunshine”. The launch began with an introduction by the centre principal Ms Krisnaveni PK and senior Chinese Language Teacher, Ng Choon Huang, who explained the goals and objectives of the project.

The K2 children then performed the song “You Are My Sunshine”, which was a heart-warming moment that set the tone for the rest of the launch. The children then had an interactive session with the seniors from St Luke Senior Care, where they asked the seniors who/what sunshine meant to them. The seniors’ responses were heart-warming and added a personal touch to the launch.

We celebrated Parent’s Day on May 12, 2023.

The event achieved its objectives of promoting parent-child bonding and building parent-teacher relationships to support children’s holistic development. The event was well-attended, and we had a great turnout of parents who actively participated in the activities with their children.

Sunshine-themed Photobooth

Families stepped into the sunshine-themed photobooth and created lasting memories. With bright and cheerful props, they posed and captured precious moments. The photobooth was a place of laughter and smiles, where parents and children expressed their love and joy.

June Holiday Activities

Throughout the month of June, activities planned for our children includes activities that focus on promoting emotional development, social skills, and creativity. Through activities such as singing, dancing, and creating art projects, children learnt to express their emotions in a positive and healthy way. They were given the opportunity to identify and understand their own emotions, as well as those of others.

Working together in group activities helped children develop social skills such as communication, cooperation, and empathy. They also learnt to respect and appreciate differences among their peers.

Collaboration with Food from the Heart: Sharing Hope, Nourishing Lives

Together with Food from the Heart SG, we extended our mission beyond smiles and gratitude. By collaborating with them, we were able to further exemplify the values of empathy and compassion by collecting and donating healthy food items to underprivileged families.

Collaborating with Seniors from Sparklecare

The children had the opportunity to connect with the seniors at Sparkle Care, fostering empathy and compassion. They learned to understand the unique challenges and experiences of older adults, which helped them appreciate the importance of showing kindness and care towards seniors.

Celebrating National Day at Sparklecare!

Celebrating National Day with the seniors at Sparkle Care allowed the children to understand the significance of national pride and unity. They learned about the importance of coming together as a community to celebrate their country and its values.

Interacting with seniors taught the children the significance of respecting their elders. They understood that every individual has a unique life story, and these interactions helped bridge the generation gap, promoting mutual respect and understanding.

Through interactive exercises and activities with the seniors, the children experienced the importance of staying physically and mentally active as they age. They learned that exercise and mental engagement contribute to overall well-being, fostering a sense of vitality and health.

S.T.E.M.I.E

Children used their creativity to design a special tool called the ‘Super Claw.’ This tool was created with a heartfelt purpose - to make the lives of our hardworking school aunties easier. Our aunties come to work early every day to ensure the school is clean and safe. The ‘Super Claw’ is a symbol of appreciation for their efforts, and a way to give back to them. It’s a simple yet ingenious invention that reflects the kindness and gratitude they feel towards these wonderful members of our school community.

SKM Parenting Talk: Nurturing Kindness at HOME!

Towards the end of our project, we collaborated with SKM to reach out to parents as well as we believed that Nurturing kindness at home is of paramount importance as it lays the foundation for a child’s character development and has far-reaching positive effects on both the individual and society as a whole. Nurturing kindness at home creates a loving and harmonious family environment. It strengthens the parent-child bond and promotes healthy relationships within the family. Kindness is closely tied to respect for others and tolerance of differences. Children who witness kindness in their homes are more likely to respect diverse perspectives and cultures, contributing to a more inclusive and accepting society.

SSDB Finale: You make me HAPPY

In the final phase of the project, our Junior Ambassadors were given the platform to share about what they learnt on the valuable lessons in empathy, gratitude, and the power of brightening someone’s day in front of an audience.

In conclusion our project themed “You are my SUNSHINE” shows how small acts of happiness and appreciation can make a big difference for people and communities.
