This year Start Small Dream Big 2020, the Kindergarten 1 and 2 children at PCF Sparkletots @ Tampines West Blk 151 embarked on a journey called ‘We Care for the Elderlies’. The children were introduced to who are the elderlies and together with their teachers, they had a brainstorming on the importance of caring for the elderlies.
To kick start the project, the children brought their grandparents’ photo for a show and tell session. They shared with their friends about their own grandparents, what was their favourite activity to do with them and how they cared for them.
The children also shared how they helped their grandparents at home.
Due to the pandemic, as part of parental involvement, the teachers came up with a home based activity of Pizza Making with the grandparents. This was one of the acivity that the children did to bond with their grandparents. The children were so excited about doing this activity and they shared with their teachers and friends the different pizza flavours they did with their grandparents.
The children also had a Zoom session with one of the grandparents where they sang jingles that they created for their grandparents to her. They even interviewed her by asking her questions like ‘How are you? How do you take care of yourself during Covid?’ etc.
The children made some crafts to show appreciation to their grandparents.
Now it is time for the children to show how their appreciation and care towards the elderlies in the community! Both teachers and children had a discussion on how they can show their appreciation and care towards the elderlies in the community. They came up with giving out disposable mask with note reminding the elderlies to take care of themselves during this period. They had lots of fun giving out masks to the elderlies in the community and reminding them to take care of themselves!
