Prior to the World Water Day Celebration on 22 March, we have planned to invite our Community Partner, Zhenghua Secondary School, to conduct fun activities related to Water Conservation for preschoolsers on 6 March 2018.
To engage our preschoolers, they conducted a story telling about saving water, an art activity related to the topic, and even taught them the “Water Wally Shower Dance.”
We also implemented the “Save Water Campaign Week” from 19 to 23 March. During this week, our children were taught about the importance of water and how each can play a part to conserve it. In addition, our N2 class learned about ‘reservoirs in Singapore’, while our K1 class learned about ‘Singapore Water Sources’, and K2 children were introduced to the topic of ‘Stormwater and Stormdrain.’
During our World Water Day Celebration, our children watched and enjoyed videos on Singapore’s water story, saving water and storm water. They performed the “Water Wally Shower Dance” and sang the song “Don’t be a Water Waster”. For Art and Craft activity, the N2 children made handprints as well as verbal pledges while the older classes wrote and illustrated their pledges in their individual cut-out water droplet.
We summed up our Water Conservation Project with a trip to NEWater, where the children listened intently to “A Water Wally Adventure,” pretended to be water droplets walking through giant water filters while making “swish swish” sounds, and by making their own water filters at the Rain Garden Workshop.
Lastly, for our effort in partnering Zhenghua Secondary School to promote water conservation in preschoolers, our Centre was presented with an award “Friend of Zhenghua” on 13th April 2018.
