On our previous SSDB activities, children learnt the importance of food and how to use them effectively to save money and our planet Earth. In this activity, children had the opportunity to explore the virtual supermarket by learning the different sections in the grocery such as vegetable section, the meat section, dairy section, frozen food section, canned goods section, bakery, etc. Above all, they were able to identify the types of food items found in the supermarket and know which are the healthy and unhealthy food.
Children responded with enthusiasm when they were asked if they’ve been to the Supermarket. Most of the children shared their experiences and they also mentioned the food they bought in the Supermarket. Afterwards, the teacher showed the logos of different Supermarket in Singapore and asked the children to identify each logo.
Children had a meaningful experience being a shopper and a cashier. Each of them was given $2 play money bill to buy some healthy food item from our classroom grocery store.
The N2 children were able to classify the healthy and unhealthy food by answering the activity sheet given to them. They were instructed to cross out the unhealthy foods and colour the healthy foods. Great job, children!
