Our Centre collaborated with St Luke’s Eldercare (Rivervale Sengkang) on the theme of “One Family, One Community” in this year’s “Start Small Dream Big” project.
Our children showed much interest and excitement as they assisted in the preparation and pre-packing of the materials needed for the various activities.
Both our teachers and children were thrilled to meet with and engage the seniors virtually.
On the day of the event, everybody showed love, care, and respect for one another. It was heartening to note that kindness was abundantly displayed throughout the session. Even though the event was conducted virtually, it did not hinder the connections forged between the seniors and our children.
Both the seniors and children were engaged in various activities ranging from keeping fit to enhancing their creativity and cognitive functions.
Everyone had the opportunity to engage in Zumba and dance exercises led by the teachers and children in each session as a warm-up before they engaged in the main activity. To enhance their creativity, the seniors and children were given a range of materials to decorate a photo frame. Fruit bingo was also used to help enhance their cognitive functions.
The seniors, children and teachers forged impactful bonds through the virtual sessions and look forward very much to subsequent sessions.
It was indeed a wonderful experience watching our children leave a positive impact on the seniors they interacted with while learning about the value of respect for the elders around them at the same time.
This partnership is facilitated by Agency for the Integrated Care and Community Chest.
