In line with the theme: ‘Many Helping Hands, Caring for Everyone’ –Little Beez Playskool collaborated with Jamiyah Home for the Aged (DarulTakrim) to provide the opportunity for our children to connect with the elderly, be kind and courteous to them and to make them comprehend that older people have a lot of life experiences that they can learn from.
Introduction:
We started our SSDB journey with our K1 and K2 children by introducing the project and carefully discussing the activities to be carried out.The children were focused and listened attentively when the teachers explained and shared about the project. They squealed with excitement upon receiving their orange bucket hats and proudly wore them.
Concurrently , a letter was sent out to parents to appeal for sponsorship/contributions of non-perishable items that are beneficial for residents.
Appreciation Card
The children then made a big ‘Thank You’ card to express their gratitude to all our supportive parents for generously donating the non-perishable items.
In addition, the children did their part by packing the Oatmeal Cookies into individual containers for easy consumption and storage. Meanwhile, teachers sorted and packed the food donations accordingly for the Home of the Aged.
Performances by the students of Little Beez:
On Monday, 24th July 2023, our K1 and K2 children spent a meaningful and fruitful day visiting the elderly at Darul Takrim. The children bonded with the elderly by performing a dance and singing songs. The elderly were seen clapping their hands and moving their body along to familiar tunes of the song – ‘Chan
Mali Chan’ and ‘Chicken Dance’.
Hands-On Activities
After the performances, the children bonded with the elderly through hands-on activities. The children befriended the elderly by chatting with them, assisting one another with the craft and interacting among themselves. Looks of joy and
happiness were apparent on the faces of the elderly as they smiled and exchanged hugs with the children.
When it was time to say goodbye, the children went around distributing the cookies they had packed. Handshakes and ‘High-Fives’ were exchanged. It was a special and meaningful bonding session with them.
Finally, we had a group photo taken together with all the staff, children and the elderly. It was truly a fulfilling experience for all of us. Our children had fun and enjoyed themselves. There was a sense of satisfaction that the event went as smoothly as planned.
