For Start Small Dream Big this year, we encouraged our children to take part in a #ToteChallenge. We have been educating children about reducing our country’s use of plastics. Our children have been brainstorming and discussing with their classmates about creative ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle plastics. We encouraged our parents to continue the conversation at home too. Together, we can protect our environment.
The #ToteChallenge is a group activity in which children communicate, problem-solve, and design a reusable shopping bag out of an old T-shirt. Most importantly, children will share their ideas for reducing plastics.
We invited the families to create a no-sew t-shirt tote bag made from old t-shirts. They were strictly refrained from buying a new shirt. Once completed, children brought it to school to ensure that it is washed and sanitised.
Inside of their no-sew t-shirt tote bags, we included some essential items such as miners water and biscuits to be donated. In school, the teachers facilitated and supported children to create a thank you card for essential workers using cereal boxes.
Inline with Teachers’ Day on 3rd of September 2020, we sent the no-sew t-shirt tote bags to teachers in My First Skool at Blk 654 Senja Road. They are our unsung heroes; our invisible heroes who have worked equally hard during this pandemic. We want to thank them for keeping the children safe and occupied at home during the circuit breaker. Now that the children are back in school, we are confident that all the teachers will continue to take good care of the children.
They are our sunshine ☀️ on a rainy day. ☔
