MK@Bendemeer is excited to embark on our first Start Small Dream Big Project – ‘Together, We Care’. Through this project, we hope to raise awareness about people with Down Syndrome and instil the value of care in our children.
To kick-start our SSDB project, we invited our K2 parents and School Leaders to be part of our Launch Party in May. Our K1 and K2 students made a poster with their thumbprints on socks templates to represent their participation in the project. The socks represent chromosomes as people with Down Syndrome have an extra chromosome. The different coloured socks symbolises diversity in the community. The School Leaders also placed their thumbprints in support of our project, officially marking the launch of SSDB 2024!
Our children danced to theme song ‘Step by Step’ and dazzled our audiences with their energy. Our K2 parents were such sporting audiences and joined in the fun too!
We invited a guest speaker from the Down Syndrome Association, Ms Sulyanna, to share with our children and parents about Down Syndrome. Through a story reading and Q&A session, our children and parents were able to gain insights on Down syndrome. As a token of our appreciation, our children crafted a “Thank You” card to express our gratitude for her visit.
Over the next few months, our children will participate in weekly activities designed to raise awareness about people with Down Syndrome and to instil the value of care. They are eager to contribute to the community, with the believe that “No one can do everything, but everyone can do something!”.
