This year for our SSDB Project, we embarked on creating awareness towards elderly love and care. It creates the opportunities for pre-schoolers to practice expressing their gratitude to their grandparents and elders around them. We did this project together with the Kindergarten 1 and Kindergarten 2 in 3 activities.
- Activity 1: I Love You As Big As The World
The children brought back take home activity. The children came up with a to-do list and brought it home. Through this activity, the children got to interact and provide a helping hand to their grandparents/elderly around them. The parents would help to capture the moment and print it out for the children to do a write-up.

- Activity 2: Reaching Out
The children created bookmarks to pass to the elderly in the neighbourhood. Once done, the children went to Rivervale Plaza to distribute to the elderly. Children approached elderly and passed them the handmade bookmarks. The elderly received the bookmarks happily and thanked the children for the beautiful bookmarks.

- Activity 3: Moments Of Joy
The children visited BrightHill Evergreen Home. Some parents joined us as well as parent volunteers for the trip. Before our visit to the home, the children, parents and staffs donated dry rations for the Home. The teachers collected and packed the donation items for the Home.

The kind lady in green is Ms Germaine Tan who is a volunteer coordinator for BrightHill Evergreen Home. She is the one who made this trip possible for us.
We travelled in public bus to BrightHill Evergreen Home. The children were excited to take the public transport.
When we arrived at BrightHill Evergreen Home, Ms Germaine brought us to the open space where the elderly were waiting for us.
When we arrived there, it was the elderly’ morning tea break. Hence, the children helped to serve the elderly their cake and milo.
Once the elderly were done with their breakfast, the children did a crepe paper flower artwork with them.
Ms nurul demonstrated to the children how to do it so that they can guide the elderly.
The children and parent volunteers guided the elderly to the flower artwork.
Both the elderly and the children were happy with their flowers.
Next the kindergarten 1 and 2 did a dance performance for the elderly respectively.
Lastly, the children, parent volunteers and teachers played Bingo game with the elderly.
We had parent volunteers to spin and read the numbers for the Bingo game.
The elderly were really good at playing Bingo. The children enjoyed playing Bingo with them. The BrightHill Evergreen Home rewards the elderly a packet of biscuit for every Bingo.
Through this SSDB project, the children have been exposed to show love and care towards the elderly. We hope to continue this in the long-run and inculcate in their daily life.
