It has been a meaningful first experience at being involved in Start Small Dream Big project for our centre.
The project activities were planned in line with the curriculum theme ‘Giving and Kindness’. To kickstart the project, the story of the ‘Giving Tree’ by Shel Silverstein was told to the children. The story helped children to understand what is kindness , the value of being kind to others and how it happy it can make them feel.
In term 1 and 2, our K1 and K2 children put up virtual performances for the elderly at Villa Francis Home for the Aged @ Yishun. For SSDB, the children packed healthy snacks contributed by their parents in appreciation for the caregivers who work tirelessly in caring for elderly residents especially during the pandemic.
In addition, the children also repotted the plants that they took care of in school into recycled plastic bottles that were painted in cartoon characters. These plants were then given to Villa Francis Home. They also wrote positive words such as ‘Stay Strong’ and ‘Be Happy’ to cheer the elderly and the caregivers at Villa Francis Home.
