Since our project aims to instil in children a sense of love for the environment by showing care and respect for plants in our school garden, we have collaboration with NParks through a programme initiative called “Community In Bloom (CIB) “ .
The Community in Bloom programme aims to foster a community spirit in creating beautiful community garden so we decided to partner with them to create our very own beautiful garden in our school.
A workshop was conducted by Jacqueline, our CIB district manager who introduced us to basic gardening and knowledge about plants.
The teachers had a great time during the workshop and the hands on experience was beneficial for us to share our knowledge with the children.
Our very own Indian borage plant where we learnt about stem cutting.
Apart from the workshop for teachers, our children in school had the opportunity to attend a workshop conducted by the friendly gardeners of Toh Yi Community Garden. In this workshop, they learnt about making their very own ezymes and self-watering planters. This was something we have been wanting to do as a school as not only would these self-watering planters be available around the school garden,we hope to spread the knowledge to our parents and conduct a similar workshop for our parents and the public during our upcoming Fund Raising Carnival and Open House event.
