Story 5 : SSDB Carnival Cum National Day Celebration

The SSDB Project 2019 has been a great learning experience for all our staff, parents and children in PCF sparkletots Preschool Blk 533. The project does not end here. We are continuing our efforts in recycling through home projects (parent-child) and educating our parents, children and the community on the importance of the three Rs and doing our part to save Mother Earth.

On 8th August 2019, our school organized a SSDB carnival cum National Day celebration. Children, parents and staff of Blk 533 were invited to participate in this event. Everyone adorned the national colours red and white to soak in the spirit of Singapore’s 54th Birthday.

Games Booths

Egg Carton Ball Throw

A parent from the parent support group together with a couple of K2 children helped mend the ‘Ball Throw’ booth. An empty egg carton tray was painted and used for the game. Players have to stand a distance from the egg carton tray and throw ping pong balls into the different painted holes. The objective was to get at least one ping pong ball into a coloured hole. A great way to reuse egg carton trays are to use them for interactive games such as this!

Tic Tac Toe

The K2 children designed this tic tac toe game using recycled papers. They drew on cross and circle cut outs using the National Day theme. Players have to sit on the ground and play tic tac toe with their opponents.

Beanbag Throw

The players had to stand a distance from the trash and recycle bins that were hand made by a parent using cardboard boxes. Players had to decide whether the items on the beanbags were meant to be tossed into the trash or recycle bins. This was one of the hot favourites!

Golf

The players have to hit the golf balls into on of the pits provided. The pits are handmade by parents and children using recycled cardboard boxes and tissue boxes. They were designed using Singapore’s bicentennial theme.

Bowling

Bowling pins were handmade using plastic bottles that were painted red and white. Players had to try and topple as many bowling pins as they can using the balls.

Food, Drinks and Fruit booths

A couple of K2 children together with teachers and parents from the parent support group mended these booths. There were mini chocolate eclairs, papadams, hotdogs, fish cuttleballs, chicken nuggets, muachee, ribena and milo packets. Most of the food items were contributed by parents. Everyone enjoyed the yummy food and drinks!

Everyone enjoyed themselves at the SSDB Carnival and there was something for everyone to take home! Tickets were all sold out and we had a great turnout by staff and families of the children of Blk 533. We would like to thank all our parents and staff for contributing to this carnival and participating in the games and national day celebrations. 😁🙏
