From the beginning of the year, our centre collaborated with Active Sport SG and Thye Hua Kwan @Active Ageing Centre at Blk 12 Bedok South for a regular workout session together. Children volunteered to do warm up routine with the Seniors and brought them for a walk around the community park. After that, they played games such as chair soccer, bowling together. For 8 sessions, these events brought two generations of people moving towards the same goal - keeping fit and having fun together. In doing so, children learnt to respect and slow down their pace to walk side by side with the Seniors and the Seniors learnt to be more active with the children.
This year, our SSDB pays tribute to these Seniors who look forward to the monthly sessions and show genuine love for the children. To show our appreciation to the Seniors, the children performed two dance items for them.
The Seniors partnered the children to play a couple of relay games. They shared a lot of laughter as children were told to slow down but it was the Seniors who were eager to win.
Towards the end of the session, our children presented an art piece to Thye Hua Kwan and a goodie bag to each of the Seniors. The younger children contributed their effort in the creation of the art piece. The trees in the art piece symbolise the Seniors, giving the generation shade and support.
We will continue to inculcate the value of a thankful heart in every child, respecting people regardless of race, language or religion!
