In 2023, GS11 carried out the Eco-Hero project which aims to teach children about environmental care and preservation while nurturing their passion for becoming eco-conscious citizens. This year, we extended our project to partner with SunLove. Our objective is to promote intergenerational respect, empathy, appreciation for seniors and giving back to the community. On March 8, 2024, we hosted a launching party and invited our parents to join in. We shared our past projects and future plans for this year.
Our first activity was a virtual gardening session with the seniors which aligned with our Eco-Hero project/sustainability. Parents contributed recycled bottles, which children decorated as flower pots. We sent over the flower pots seeds from NParks and gardening tools to SunLove. On the event day, K1 children performed for the seniors and demonstrated the step-by-step way to initiate planting of seeds.
As National Day approached, children planned to express their gratitude to the seniors who has played crucial role in developing Sinagpore as a garden city. Children performed National Day songs and created tokens of appreciation for them.
The seniors were also invited to share their experiences during the olden days. It was amazing how things have changed.
Our parents provided their home support by helping children prepare for the performances, ensuring a successful and meaningful celebration.
The Eco-Hero project by GS11 has effectively expanded its reach in 2024 by involving both children and SunLove, fostering environmental awareness and intergenerational respect. The initiative not only educated children about the importance of environmental care but also created meaningful interactions between different age groups within the community. Through creative and collaborative efforts like virtual gardening and National Day celebrations, the project has successfully promoted community engagements and environmental awareness!
