In return to the society to thank the pioneer generation who contributed in the growth and prosperity of our country, our K1s visited a senior care! The children danced to classical songs such as - chan mali chan, munnaeru vaalibaa, which may familiar to the pioneers of Singapore. They moved on to playing games and doing clay art with the folks. The session with the seniors ended with children hugging and shaking the hands with the seniors. It was truly a heart warming session!
The children began the session by warming up with the seniors through the dancing sessions of the 5 different songs.
After the sing and dance along session, the children moved on to playing games with the seniors in the style of pasar malam which could remind the seniors of great memories they have had in the past.
The children were given this opportunity to interact with the seniors. They opportunity allowed children to talk, bond and empathize with the elderly teaching the children to be considerate people who are different from them.
For safe-keeping purposes, the children did a hands-on activity with the children by creating a clay sculpture with them.
The children were taught ways to mould the clay in school before going to the senior care to teach and assist the seniors.
Most of the seniors did up a simple flower with the clays of different colours. Some of the seniors who completed it faster attempted to do up sculptures of other designs!
As the session came to an end, the children went around shaking hands and giving hugs to the elderly over at the sparkle care and bidding them farewell.
Over the entire process of the project Start Small Dream Big, (SSDB), the children played a part in this project from the initial stage to the final stage.
Initially they tried to understand the differences between them and the seniors. Following, they practiced the dancing and singing and contributed in designing of the activities that were used as games at the games booth. They were involved in the project to provide the seniors an enjoyable time.
