The objective of this SSDB Project is to recognise the importance of water and to impart water conservation skills that the children can carry out both at home and in school.
To launch the SSDB project, the children were shown a video about the water cycle and the different purposes of water.
The following week, they recap on the uses of water and its importance as a limited resource for us. They did a simple activity to understand to process of water filtration and how difficult it is to access safe drinking water. Hence the importance of conserving water.
The following week, the children did a worksheet to identify some areas from or daily usage of water in which we can reduce the amount and conserve water. After the activity, they discussed on some things they could do to reduce they usage of water. Such as:
-
Using a cup of water when brushing their teeth
-
Reusing rice water for cooking
-
Turn off the tap when soaping the dishes and only use the water when ready to rinse
The following week, as part of the finale, the children recap on the practices they have used both and home and in school. After the children identified key areas in which they can practice water conservation, they created a jingle using the points highlighted.
