On 22 April 2024, the children celebrated earth day in school. Prior to the celebration, the children collaborated with their parents to create the earth day banner at each respective bay. We would like to appreciate the effort that parents contributed by decorating the Earth Day banner together with their children.
On the Earth Day celebration, the children came to school by wearing blue and green attires to represent earth colours.
As the extension from the SSDB, in the learning space, the children learned the importance of 3R (recycle, reduce and reuse) by sorting the picture cards on the corresponding recycle bin. They learned that different colours of recycle bins have different meaning. For instance: Blue bins are for paper, yellow bins are for cans and red bins are for plastic materials. The children were able to sort the materials based on the colours bin. Subsequently, during outdoor activity, the children were given chance to help the community by picking up the rubbish around the neighbourhood. They were given gloves for hygiene purpose to pick the rubbish on the floor. We collected plastic bottles, candy wrapper, plastic bags, etc. The children learned that this rubbish must be thrown into the rubbish bin and not on the floor.
After outdoor, the children made the Earth day artwork by creating the earth colour with recycled materials such as blue plastic bag and green crepe paper to represent earth colours. Through this learning experiences the children developed their sense of responsibility, care and respect for the world around them.
