On 29 March 2018, the children at MOE Kindergarten @ Northoaks came together for a special sharing session.
It’s time for the Start Small Dream Big Project again! This year, we will be embarking on a learning journey called “We Love, We Share”.
Our children will be given many opportunities to lend their helping hands to their community.
Pictures of houses, toys, clothes, food and other necessities were flashed and children were asked to put a thumbs-up for the things that they have.
They were reminded that some people in our community need our help and we possess a lot that we can give.
Then, our children heard the story “The Giving Tree_” by _Shel Silverstein. It tells the story about a tree which gives selflessly, its branches, its trunk, its apples and its everything to its best friend. When they were asked which role they would rather be, it was a unanimous answer, “Tree!”
On the same day, children brought home a special mission. They were tasked to discuss with their parents about what they can do for the people around them and document it on a heart shape card.
The “Giving Trees” outside our school
The following Monday, our children brought back their heart shape cards with their kind thoughts and hung them on the giving trees together with their parents.
Throughout the week, the parents and their children continued to hang the children’s ideas on the giving trees and many passers-by do stop by to look through the “**little yet big”** notes by the children.
It is really heartening to see that our children have developed a deeper understanding of the environment and are willing to give. They also brainstormed great ideas which will be included in the later part of the project.
Next up will be the planting day on 19 April 2018. Parents are also invited to help the children kick-start the vegetables planting project and the harvest will be donated to the people in need. Looking forward to the fun and meaningful day with everyone’s green fingers!
