The theme for this year’s SSDB is Stay Connected, Make A Difference. In staying connected with Singapore’s Green plan, we have planned for a community project titled, “A Greener Home for Everyone” which aims to highlight to our children the importance of going green and cultivate green and eco-friendly habits. We hope to bring awareness to our children and community to embrace green living in our journey of envisioning a greener home concept.
We kick-started the project by finding out what problems our Earth, animals and nature around us are facing. We looked into the causes and discussed how our daily lifestyles and human actions can affect the environment and our country. Through a video, we also saw how our trash is filling up our landfills at Pulau Semakau.
Children shared their own personal experiences on witnessing the effects of our human actions and the good and bad examples they saw from other people. They discussed what should be done, how we can do better to protect our earth and keep the environment clean and green.
After the discussion, our children created their own class pledge towards a mission of protecting and saving the earth through ways such as the 3R’s, moving towards zero waste and planting our own vegetables for a sustainable living etc.
The children also went home to create their own individual missions and pledge towards them together with their parents.
