For the Start Small Dream Big Project 2022, the PG to K2 children embarked on the theme “It Is Not A Box”. The children had to think creatively to transform recycled boxes into unique crafts gifts and props for this collaborative project. Parents were also involved in contributing the recycled materials for this project.
The N1 and K1 children made flower vases and decorative storage boxes thoughtfully for the elderly in St Luke’s Eldercare, while the PG, N2 and K2 children meticulously made props and performed there.
The parents and children recycled by collecting empty tissue boxes and toilet rolls, which the N2 children used to make guitars and a microphone stand. They painted and designed their tissue boxes, followed by assembling the toilet rolls to create their individual unique tissue-box guitar. The microphone stand was constructed using toilet rolls, empty tissue boxes and a fruit wrapper. The children taped stacked toilet rolls into the tissue box and made a microphone which they covered using a fruit wrapper. The microphone stand was painted with black and gold paint. The teachers recorded the children’s performances, and delivered the hand-made gifts to St Luke’s Eldercare on 5 October 2022.
Through the Start Small Dream Big project, the children developed creativity and problem-solving skills as they explored different ways to reuse and recycle boxes. The children also developed teamwork, collaboration and communication skills as they worked closely with their friends, teachers, families and the community. In addition, the children delved into Nobleland’s core values of passion, perseverance, innovation and respectful, when they embarked on the project “It Is Not A Box”.
