SSDB 2024 : M.Y World @ Woodlands Theme ‘Friends Forever’

Our Start Small Dream Big celebration was held last Friday, 21 June 2024. It was a vibrant and enriching event, filled with meaningful activities for children across all levels, from PG to K2.

In the weeks leading up to the celebration, our PG children engaged in a creative project, crafting ‘Lovely Sun Catchers’ using natural resources such as flowers and leaves. This activity not only fostered their artistic skills but also connected them with nature. Our N1 children crafted ‘CARING for Friends Wind Chimes’ using recyclable materials, teaching them the importance of sustainability and friendship. The N2 children designed ‘Friends Forever Tote Bags,’ incorporating themes of friendship and creativity. These beautiful crafts were later sold to parents, with the proceeds being donated to our community partner, the Down Syndrome Association Singapore.

K1 and K2 children also participated by decorating their SSDB Star Pledge Cards with the theme ‘Friends Forever,’ aligning with this year’s SSDB celebration focus on friendship and community

During the celebration, the K1 children performed heartfelt songs about friendship entitled ‘You’ve Got a Friend in me’ and ‘Peng You.’ Their touching performances emphasized the values of camaraderie and support among peers. Meanwhile, our talented K2 children dramatized the beloved story “Dear Zoo,” incorporating the values of friendship and care as they tweaked the story to highlight these themes. Their creative adaptation was a wonderful showcase of their understanding of friendship, care and empathy, much to the delight of the audience.

The highlight of the event was a heartfelt talk by Ms. Sulyanna from the Down Syndrome Association Singapore. Her talk, titled ‘Differently Abled,’ provided valuable insights into Down Syndrome, discussing its impact on individuals and their families. She shared practical advice on how to interact with and support those with Down Syndrome, fostering a greater understanding and empathy among our community.

Overall, the Start Small Dream Big celebration was a wonderful success, bringing together children, parents, and staff in a shared commitment to fostering friendship, inclusivity, and community support.
