During our September holiday program, we got our N2 and K1 children to come together and give the care packs to our Community Helpers. We started the week off by packing the food items the children have donated in the month of August. Children were all eager to start packing. They followed a checklist of items and counted using one to one correspondence to aid them in packing the accurate amount of items. The experience was fun and enjoyable to them!
Next, before bringing our children out to hand the care packs. We briefed them on the importance of giving and showing appreciation to others. Children shared that we should always be kind and help everyone in need. They were able to understand the importance of giving. Children role-played and practiced handling out the care packs respectfully using two hands with a bright smile. The children showed respect by greeting and thanking teacher afterwards as well.
During the field trip, children gave out the Care Packs to the NTUC staff that were all working hard to refill the stocks in the respective shelves. Each staff took their time to meet the children despite their hectic schedule. Both K1 and N2 children gave out the Care Packs in a respectful manner by using 2 hands and saying phrases like “Good Morning, Thank You for your Hard Work.” Overall, children learnt how they could show appreciation to our Community Helpers through gift giving and small acts of kindness as it taps on the NEL Learning Disposition of Appreciation.
To wrap up the field trip, both K1 and N2 children drew their favourite or memorable experience when they were at NTUC FairPrice @ Oasis Terraces. Children use the different element of art to draw as they reflected about their field trip. It made them reminisce about what had happened and the feeling of nervousness when passing out the gifts. All in all this was truly an unforgettable experience that has made a positive impact to the children.
