In line with Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) 2022 theme ‘Our Family, Our Community’, our centre plan to nurture in children appreciation and care towards families and people around the community. We are partnering with National Park (NParks) to provide opportunities for our children to learn about edible gardening. Our children will learn to grow seeds of vegetables and edibles. When the plants are ready for harvesting, children will pack and distribute them to families and people around the community.
Our SSDB project title for this year is Sprouting Love – For You, For Me and For Us. Through this project, we hope that children develop kindness, empathy, compassion and care for the people around them. Furthermore, children get opportunities to understand the journey of edibles from gardening to table.
On 22 April 2022, our centre launched the SSDB project together with our World Book Day celebration. Children participated in activities dressed in costumes based on characters from books about vegetables and edible gardening.
The day ended with children from each class planting their seeds and stem cuttings. Our Nursery 2 children started growing Lettuce, Kindergarten 1 children explored stem cuttings of Brazilian Spinach and seeds of Chinese Spinach while our Kindergarten 2 children learnt about kitchen scraps while growing spring onions.
