SSDB 2022 - Caring for Our Family, Friends, and Community

As part of the SSDB Project 2022, the N2 – K2 children at M.Y World @ Marsiling Greenview (MGV) engaged in activities that were infused with our Core Values of ‘Kindness’ and ‘Caring’. Through those activities, they immersed themselves in purposeful discussions and acquired meaningful experiences on how to care for their families, friends, and communities.

In Week 3 – 4 of Term 2, the children focused on caring for their families. They talked and discussed the meaning of love. They were introduced to the 5 Love Languages – words of affirmation, physical touch, receiving gifts, quality time and acts of service. They learned to use the 5 Love Languages to show how they care and love their family. Through these activities such as games and role plays, they learned to appreciate, help, and contribute to their family members better. They also identified the Love Language they prefer to receive by creating a chart of Love Language within their class.

Between Week 5 and 6 of Term 2, the children directed towards the Core Value ‘Kindness’ and delved into activities related to caring for their friends and teachers. Through storytelling and role playing, the children surrounded themselves with ways on how to show kindness, compassion, and empathy to their friends and teachers. They were made acquainted with Bucket Filler activities – where they had to complete their Daily Kindness Tasks, whereby they would have to fill up their buckets with tokens for every task done. This cultivated the habit of being kind and nice to the people around them in school to make others feel content and pleased with them. Some of the classes continued to incorporate the Bucket Filler activities as part of their classroom culture after the project.

The children personally penned down messages they wished to say to their peers that were resting at home. The teachers recorded a Care Video of the children saying warm messages to tell their classmates at home to drink a lot of water, have a good rest and telling them how they can’t wait to see them back in school. Concurrently during this time, the Mother Tongue Language teachers were also engaged in getting the children to learn songs that spread the message of ‘Kindness and Caring’.

During Week 9 – 10 of Term 2, the children extended their thinking and pondered upon how they can show their care for the community. They closed Term 2 by showcasing their Care Videos, together with their Kindness Performances during the Kindness Celebration Day on the 26th of May 2022.
