This year for our Start Small Dream Big project theme of ‘Together We Care’, we are pleased to be embarking on this project together with children and parents to foster and instill a sense of caring for the community. We aim to celebrate diversity and kindness towards the community.
Through the 6 months long project, children will be able to develop a sense of care for the people around them in the community and learn the various ways they can show they care.
We kickstarted the project by inviting bus captains and personnels from SMRT Buses to share their day-to-day life as a bus captain and the bus station personnel. They encouraged children as commuters themselves to help fellow commuters and educate them on gracious behavior & safe travel.
It was heartening to see the children in action through pictures and videos. We hope you will enjoy this sharing!
Through this activity, we want to cultivate kindness and gracious behaviour in children when taking public transport. This allows the children to understand various ways to show care and respect to bus captains, service ambassadors or interchange staff, as well as how to be a gracious and kind commuter.
In this activity, the children enjoyed looking through the photos of the bus captains smiling when they received the handmade cards and the diorama. The children mentioned they were very happy seeing the bus drivers happy and would love to show their appreciation yearly through these events.
Parents have also mentioned that when the children boarded the buses, they have been observed to be saying hello and being friendly to the bus captains. We think this event has reflected a positive impact on the children :)
