We have launched our ‘Start Small Dream Big’ project on 23 June 2020 with our Nursery, Kindergarten 1 and Kindergarten 2 children. Our topic is ‘Cherish our cleaners in the neighbourhood’. We want to recognise the efforts from cleaners that they are also frontliners in the situation of Covid19 which helps us to maintain cleanliness in the neighbourhood. The objectives of the project are to appreciate the cleaners in our neighbourhood, contribute our part in keep the neighbourhood clean and raise awareness for anti-littering.
After watching the SSDB video, the children have a better understanding of the project. They also have an introduction to our topic and discuss on what can we do to achieve our objectives. The children actively participate in the discussion as they looked at some photos where the cleaners are disinfecting the public places, such as lift buttons, playground and letterboxes, during this Covid19 situation.
Nursery children listen attentively to the story ‘Cubbies at the park’ from Singapore Kindness Movement (SKM) . We emphasized more on thank you our neighbourhood heroes and keep Singapore clean.
K1 children talked about how to show appreciation for our cleaners and learning about the virture of gratefulness. They engage in watercolour painting on Thank you picture that are given from SKM.
K2 children also did the watercolour painting and started to write in their own SSDB reflection journal as they discuss about the topic.
The children are excited and they showed great interest in this topic. We look forward to engage children in more meaningful activities in relation to our topic. We also hope to involve families and our community in the project.
