Third year into Start Small Dream Big (SSDB), this year the Nursery children from Newton Kindergarten reach out to the less fortunate children at Chen Su Lan Methodist Children’s Home.
To incorporate with our theme in Term 2, Plants, the children had experience planting beans and see them grow. Stories related to plants/ seeds were read. One of which was “The Little Red Hen”. They understood that flour was milled from wheat and flour can be made into so many food.
The children were given a list of food that comes from plants and encouraged to create their own goodie bag to donate to the children’s home. They were excited to take part in this project and urged their parents to bring them to the supermarket to get these goodies.
When the representative from Chen Su Lan Methodist Children’s Home came to collect these goodie bags, some of our children handed some items to her as an act of representing the school donating to the children’s home. There were smiles were on our children’s faces knowing they had helped someone in need. This mini project had taught our little ones to have an empathy and kind hearts.
