“Integration and Inclusion of the Elderly with the Young”
On 16th March 2018, our Nursery, K1 & K2 students visited the Lee Ah Mooi Old Age Home at 9.30am.
They danced and sang while the wheel chair bound audience clapped and sang along. It was a delight to see the participation on both levels. The elderly were delighted in the company of the young students who were warming up to them.
Next the students were guided by their teachers to serve the elderly with banana cake which had been baked at the school. They approached each elderly person, shook hands with them and offered them a slice of cake.
This is a positive first step to expose young children as to how to react to people using wheel chairs instead of just standing there not being sure as to how to react. Even a smile at wheel chair users is acknowledgement enough and would serve as a social advancement.
Exposure is important and beneficial to both young and old as both have a great deal to offer each other.
