Little Footprints @ Ubi chose St. John’s Home for the Elderly Persons as our beneficiary for our SSDB 2017 project. The project aims to nurture our children to be caring and gracious citizens growing up to play an active role in creating a kind and compassionate society for our Elderly.
On the 11th May 2017 our kindergarten children spent the morning with the residents of St. John’s Home. At the Home the children had an opportunity to tour their premises, which allowed them to see the living conditions of these Elderly. The children did a ‘Hand print activity’ together with the Elderly which put a smile on both the Elderly as well as on our little ones. At the end of the session the children put up a performance for the Elderly singing a chinese song. And we wrapped up the session with a simple exercise routine which encouraged the Elderly to follow. This activity also benefited the children in gaining self-esteem as they were given the opportunity to perform in front of different people.
We then held a Flea Market at our school on the 25th August 2017 to raise funds towards the building of their new Home. We will visit the Home again on 8th September 2017 to hand over the donations to them with a small performance by our children.
