We can make a difference in our own ways!
For the SSDB project, the K1 and K2 children from My First Skool @ Blk 229 Ang Mo Kio Ave 3 created their very own book, titled “Our Learning Journey”. With their creative minds, they brainstormed and came up with the storyline and characters in the stories on their own based on the theme of pro-social values. In addition, the little authors also did their own illustrations!
In conjunction with IGP “Stories Around Us”, the children created beautiful art canvas pieces based on their experiences and knowledge gained from the project. Their creations were then “sold” to their parents in exchange for food rations during an Art Gallery session held in the centre.
Before the commencement of the Art Gallery session, the children put up amazing performances for their parents which revolved around the theme of caring and compassion to reflect what they learnt from the combined SSDB and IGP projects.
To conclude the SSDB project, the children visited COMNET Senior Services Activity Centre which supports vulnerable and low-income seniors on 28 June 2017, where they performed, did morning workouts and worked on National Day crafts with the seniors. The children also distributed the food rations they earned with their own effort and hard-work to them. It was really heart-warming to see the happy faces of the children and the seniors and the appreciation from the seniors as they escorted the children up the bus!
It was an invaluable experience as the children learnt about compassion and caring for the less fortunate and they can give back to the society using their own efforts. Parents were supportive of the initiative and were happy to be involved in the project. They even requested for the centre to sustain and continue with such meaningful activities and wanted to be actively involved as well!
