In August, SGM Murni held our very first family âSports Day cum Fundraising Carnivalâ event at the United World College SEA. The purpose of this event is for the children to contribute to the community by giving back to the society. We have decided to raise funds by organising this event for our chosen beneficiary, Ain Society. At the same time, we encouraged the children to be active by engaging in a healthy lifestyle with their family.
The President of Ain Society, Mr. Abdul Malek, was invited to be the Guest of Honour of the event. A representative from the K1 and K2 class presented a token of appreciation to him at the start of the event. After that we had a mass workout with the teachers, children and their parents. The Fundraising Carnival opened after the children had their Sports Day games.
Prior to the event, the K1 and K2 children embarked on an upcycling project. The K1 children decided to reuse scrap felt to create flower brooches.
The K2 children decided to reuse old cloths and fabric and upcycled them into a drawstring bag.
We also extended this project to the parents of the centre as part of a parental involvement activity. The upcycled items were sold at the carnival to help raise funds for the beneficiary.
The K1 and K2 children were furtherinvolved during the carnival. They executed different roles during the event such as manning the upcycling booth, selling of candy floss and assisting in the carnival game stations.
