On 27 July 2023, SGM Murni’s K1 and K2 students embarked on a memorable visit to the Lion Befrienders’ Active Ageing Centre (AAC). The day was filled with laughter, music and meaningful interactions that left a lasting impact on both the young children and the elderly residents.
Amidst the joyful anticipation, the children showcased their talent by serenading the elderly with delightful folk songs like “Chan Mali Chan”, “Rasa Sayang” and “You are My Sunshine”. It definitely brought the elderlies back to a nostalgic memory lane as they sang along gleefully with the children.
As the morning progressed, the children and elderlies enthusiastically engaged in a spirited game of paper ball and musical chairs. The shared enjoyment of such simple games emphasized the universal nature of joy and the unique connection that transcends age. The infectious spirit of competition blended seamlessly with the wisdom of experience, fostering an environment where every participant is a winner.
The children, perhaps initially shy, quickly warmed up to the elderlies. In return, the children’s youthful energy and innocence brought forth smiles that radiated warmth and appreciation from the elderlies.
The biggest takeaway from this visit was definitely the meaningful inter-generational bonds that was fostered, bonds that have enriched both the young and old. Thank you, Lion Befrienders, for making this happen! ❤️
