For the 2024 Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) Project, M.Y World @ Waterway SunDew had chosen the theme âSaving Water, Saving Earthâ to provide children with opportunities to participate in water conservation activities and acquire a deeper understanding of the importance of water conservation and its impact on the Earth.
The N2, K1, and K2 classes collaborated with the NEWater Visitor Centre. Through an experiential guided tour, the children gained insights into the 3-Step Purification Process used in the production process NEWater and water-saving tips. NEWater facilitates the collection and reuse of every drop of water, ensuring a sustainable water supply for everyone in Singapore.
During the guided tour, the children were invited to act as water molecules and passing through the water filtration process, transforming dirty water into clean water.
In line with our theme, the children participated in an inquiry-based exploration of âWater Filtration,â using coffee filter paper and various materials. Through this hands-on activity, they discovered how filtration purifies âdirty water.â Additionally, they developed a deeper understanding of the significance of, and learnt to appreciate, every drop of water.
As part of their learning on water conservation, the children engaged in a range of interactive activities, including creating their own cheer and poster to promote water-saving practices, as well as interviewing teachers about their methods for conserving water both at home and in school. Additionally, the children participated in an outdoor walk, where they discussed strategies for keeping surrounding water sourcesâsuch as lakes, rivers, and seasâfree from pollution.
It has been a meaningful and enriching learning experience for our children, allowing them to explore and develop a deeper understanding of water conservation. Let us all foster water-saving habits at school, at home, and within the community. Together, we can make every drop count and save water to protect the Earth! đ§đ
Till our next yearâs collaborationâŚ
