Launching of SSDB on our Sports Day on 25th March 2017.
On 28 March 2017 we introduced the “Healthier Choice” symbol to create awareness of Healthy Eating to the children. We brought them to a supermarket to find different types of food that have the symbols. The children purchased the selected food and drinks from the supermarket and consumed it.
On 5 April 2017, the K1/ K2 classes visited Sree Narayana Mission Homes @ Yishun to perform two workout dances to the residents. We also donated funds that raised during our Sports Day on 25/3/17 to help the elderly in the homes.
We introduced the 3Rs – Reduce, Reuse & Recycle in cultivating the values of “Reduce Food Wastage”.
Reduce - Food Wastage – We had a “Clean your Bowl” campaign in school from 24/4/17 – 28/4/17. Teachers and students were singing rhymes to encourage one another to finish their food before keeping their bowls.
Reuse – Cookery lesson on 19/5/2017 – We made QQ Rice balls to encourage children not to waste their food but to turn it into a delicious healthy snack instead.
Recycle – Parent - child take home activity - to make a craft that is related to “Reduce Food Wastage” using recycled materials at home. The craft were given to the public visitors that visit the Community Centre on 1/6/2017 (Sunflower Day) to raise awareness of the values.
We invited parents to participate in “Zero Waste” Challenge. It is a 2-day Challenge from 20/5/17 – 21/5/17 (Sat & Sun) to be doing at home. What to do: Share with the child of ways that we can minimise waste of food. Explain to the child about the waste-free rules for 2 days which is waste-free breakfast, lunch and dinner. They can also consider making sure lights and water are turned off when not in use. Take photos for the child if he/she is able to follow the rules and successfully meet the challenge. Print out the photos and paste them in the attached “Zero Waste” Challenge form. The family who can follow the rules throughout the 2 days will be rewarded.
We hereby wrap up the SSDB with a Tri-Le Walkathon, invited by Nee Soon East CC.
We would like to take this opportunity to engage parents, children and the community to promote the awareness of healthy lifestyle. The parents and children were excited to take part in the activities and they were eager to challenge by completing the walkathon with their families.
The presence of their favourite super heroes have created double excitement for all the children! They enjoyed themselves in the carnival games and we ended the event with an outdoor movie screening of “Kung Fu Panda 3” while having a mass picnic with the residents of the area.
