Racial Harmony @ FaithAct

17th July 2018

The children went to FaithAct centre to celebrate racial harmony day with the elderly and pioneers.

This round, Mr Jonathon from FaithAct shared the meaning of one people one nation by telling the story of a tree.

At the end of the sharing, Mr Jonathon invited children to make finger print on the 2D tree to represent the different prints and sizes of fruits on the tree.

Elders also were invited to have their prints on the tree.

Upon completion of the activity, Li Laoshi introduced the porcelain art in Chinese culture. The elders using their creativity drew on the paper plate while the children assisted in painting the plate.

At the end of the activity, the elders were shown traditional games. They were excited to see the games as they grew up playing with these games. The elders were happy to share how they played the games such as ‘5 stones’, ‘chapteh’, ‘paper ball’, ‘Snap’ and ‘Gasing’.

However they did not know about the malay traditional game, ‘congkak’. Elmiera (K2) and Teacher Aliza showed them how to play the game and they were attracted to the games as one of the elders commented, “The game use mental calculation if you want to win you must good in Math.”

At the end of the event we took a group photo. So much we can learn from one another. The elders and children are looking forward to meet in the next event.

“Unity is strength. . . when there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved.”
