The project idea was inspired by a spark from the IGP Simple Machines project as all the simple machines item could be made from recycle materials which has been an on-going project carried forward since Kindergarten 1 when a handful of the children were singing the song ‘Saving Gaia’ that was on tv and with the issue of a hundred-year-old tree that has collapsed in the Botanic Garden which triggered the idea of using R3 materials to be environmental friendly and saving what can be reused to make useful things out of nothing. With the support and understand of parents/guardians, most of the children made items on ‘simple machines’ using recycle materials with their parents at home and shared their ideas in class. Children with busy parents were not left out. They did cooperative work on their craft in the classroom during Discovery of the World and Art and Craft lessons.
Parents/Guardians and Teachers from different level in the centre collaborated in collecting recycled materials and brainstorm to make items like ladder, fan, claw machine, cars, wells, pulley, see-saw, fan, marble run and even a multi-storey car parks and even games.
