“Start Small Dream Big” was initiated by the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) to encourage pre-schools to create authentic platforms for children to innovate, problem-solve and tap on their unique strengths to help others. This year, the K1 and K2 children from Skool4Kidz @ Tampines GreenLeaf embarked on a project titled ‘Helping Hands’ in collaboration with our partners SG Cares and the Brahm Centre.
In this time of difficulty where the world is battling with the pandemic, the children were instilled with social and community awareness. They were taught about the significance of giving back to the society, showing care and concern for those in need, as well as the importance of compassion. Hence, the children kickstarted the ‘Helping Hand’ project by expressing their strong desire to help the people in our community who are affected by the pandemic - especially those suffering from chronic illnesses such as diabetes, as well as the vulnerable elderly.
Together with our partners, SG Cares - a national movement dedicated to guide and support the goodwill of all who live in Singapore to better help those in need, and the Brahm Center - a registered charity that aims to promote happier and healthier living, the children planned and implemented a donation drive to collect food items for families in need. The children created posters as well as donated various food items such as rice, biscuits and mineral water for this project.
Through the generosity and kindness of our parents and staff from Skool4Kidz @ Tampines GreenLeaf, the children managed to pack 32 hampers. These hampers were handed over to the team of volunteers from Brahm Centre for distribution. A total of 32 families living in MacPherson, Simei and Tampines benefitted from this project.
Through this project, we aspire to nurture each child holistically, including character building, so that they are well-prepared for life-long learning, active and responsible citizenry and success in later life. We hope to encourage children to do their part - big or small to help others by using their own resources and creativity.
The success of this project deeply inspired the children to carry on with their good deeds therefore, as a mark of gratitude, the children created and presented tokens of appreciation to the parents who donated selflessly to this project.
