The children from the N2, K1 and K2 classes were introduced to SSDB. This year, we titled our initiative as, ‘Project CARE’, to collaborate with SASCO Senior Citizens’ Home. We wanted our children to remember our elders in the society as part of our families and community. It was aimed at building inter-generational bonding for the children to experience the joy of caring and sharing with the seniors in the homes.
To kick start, we held a launch party on 27 April 2022. The children discussed to identify who their families are and the people in the community. They shared various ways to care for any mankind and animals.
On the day of our launch party, the children brought donations-in-kind for SASCO @ Hong San Seniors.
After launching the initiative, ‘Project CARE’, our children, in prior to the visit to the senior home, diligently practiced making their craft work that they had planned to do with the seniors. They had to demonstrate and assist the seniors for an interaction.
The N2 class children practiced making roses with a towel.
The K1 children practiced making terrariums with recycled material like the plastic bottles.
The K2 children practiced making a teddy bear with soft towels, ribbons and googly eyes.
On the 22 June 22, the children were all set to go to SASCO @ Hong San.
At the senior Homes, the children played, ‘Keep the balloon in the air’, an ice breaker game with the elders.
The N2, K1 and K2 children performed to entertain the seniors at Homes.
The K1 children assisted the seniors in making the terrariums.
The K2 children assisted the seniors in making soft towel teddy bears.
The children had a great time with the seniors at the Homes. They thanked and bid farewell to the seniors for spending the time with them. The children learned that when they interact and play with their grandparents it can be fun too and it’s one of the ways to show care and love to them.
The children returned back to the centre with a heart full of joy and love.
